The education of actors in Greenland has since 1975 been under the auspices of Tukak Teatret in Fjaltring, led by Raider Nilsson. However, it has now been decided that this education will be provided on Greenland.
In 1984 a group of actors established the privately financed institution Silamiut Teatret, with its home base in Nuuk. Since there establishment the group has toured widely outside of Greenland and has had a heavy and stressful work-load. This created the need for continuing education and inspirational activity.
KAISKA has a total of ten paying members, most of whom live in Nuuk, and the addition of new actors is extremely rare. Greenlandic actors do receive education at various institutions but since the opportunities for work in Greenland are so limited, they do not have the possibility to hone their skills. Also, actors are not receiving educations with the specifically geared towards the realities of work on Greenland since the agreement with Tukak Teatret was terminated.
