The Nordic Union of Playwrights is an organisation of playwright unions from the nordic countries


The Finnish Dramatists' Union

Originally founded by a group of writers, The Finnish Dramatists' Union has been in active operation since 1921. Today the Union comprises over 450 members who work as professional script writers for stage, film, television, radio and multimedia. Both Finnish and Swedish-speaking authors are represented by the Union.

The Swedish Playwrights Union

The Swedish Playwrights Union was founded in 1941 and is the organisation in which, with few exceptions, all professional playwrights in Sweden are members. At present the Union boasts approximately 675 members representing all professions where dramatic texts are used (theatre, film, television, radio, video, etcetera). Writers of children's theatre, translators, scriptwriters and writers of musical theatre, all are represented by the Union.

Writers' Guild of Norway (WGN) is an independent writers' organisation whose purpose is to protect the artistic and financial interests of writers for film, television, radio and theatre. Founded in 1938, the Guild currently organises approximately 285 writers.

The Danish Playwrights' and Screenwriters' Guild

Danske Dramatikere

The Danish Playwrights' and Screenwriters' Guild, Danske Dramatikere, is the union representative and lobby organization for dramatists working in theatre, radio, television and film as well as for translators and adaptors (dramaturges) of dramatic works. The aim of the Union is to act in the interest of playwrights and screenwriters in all matters related to work, economy and copyright and to promote the best possible circumstances for the development of Danish dramatic writing in all media. The Union represents its members in collective bargaining and acts in support of members, providing concrete guidance and advice in contract negotiation and legal aid in the case of disputes. The Union is also active in arranging workshops, protecting copyright, distributing stipends and grants to playwrights and the bestowing of diverse awards.

The Icelandic Dramatists´ Union

Leikskáldafélag Íslands

The Icelandic Dramatists´ Union is an independent organization of
playwrights and scriptwriters in Iceland. Its main purpose is the protection
of the artistic, moral and pecuniary rights of its members, and the
promotion of contemporary Icelandic playwrighting.
