New international marketing channel for Finnish drama
Finnishplays.com (www.finnishplays.com) has been launched online. The English language internet service allows visitors to browse a large catalogue of translated Finnish plays and apply for performing rights for listed works. At launch, the service includes information about almost 600 translations across 29 different languages. The service also includes news, as well as information about latest professional premieres in Finland.

International partner network
Finnishpays.com is aimed towards effective international marketing of Finnish plays. One of the service's central concepts is the building of an international partner network, through which the works of Finnish playwrights are marketed abroad. At the time of launch, Finnishplays.com has entered into partnerships with several international drama agents, and continues negotiations with many others, continuously seeking new partners in areas not yet covered by the network. Members of the Finnishplays.com network may, among other things, download plays directly from the website.

The new service is expected to boost the volume of the already increasing number of Finnish plays performed abroad. Finnish Dramatists' Union, which owns and maintains the Finnishplays.com service, signed twenty international contracts in 2009. In 2010, regular performances outside of Finland will include at least Sirkku Peltola's The Finnhorse in Iceland and Latvia, Sofi Oksanen's Purge in Estonia, Juha Siltanen and Jorma Uotinen's Piaf Piaf in Hungary, Jari Juutinen's Juliette, Juliette in Luxembourg, Susanne Ringell's Swimming Naked in Sweden, Esko-Pekka Tiitinen's Wonder the Little Hedgehog in Estonia, Reko Lundán's Unnecessary People in Estonia and Hong Kong, Hella Wuolijoki's plays in Russia and Denmark, Mika Waltari's works in Estonia, Spain and the Czech Republic, and plays based on Tove Jansson's works, including the popular Moomin books, in England, Sweden, China, Poland, Republic of Macedonia, Estonia and Russia.

Additionally, the Finnish Dramatists' Union, together with the Finnish Theatre Information Centre, sends works to international theatre festivals and other events with staged readings.
