Jon Fosse receives the Ibsen Drama PrizeJon Fosse

Norwegian dramatist Jon Fosse received the Ibsen drama prize which must be described as the most prestigous of them all next to the Nobel Prize. The prize money is 2.5 million norwegian kronur, a hefty sum, and being only the third time that the prize is given out Jon Fosse joins the theatre visionaries Peter Brook and Ariane Mnouchkhine.

Fosse is without doubt the best known and most performed nordic dramatist today. His plays have been translated into 40 languages and next to Yasmina Reza he is the most performed living dramatist in the world today.
Since his theatre debut in 1994 he has written 44 plays and even though his receiving the Ibsen prize this year has launched a lively debate in Norway no one questions his status as a theatrical figure in the world theatre today.
