A New Agreement with TV4

20-01 2009

The Swedish Playwrights’ Union and the TV4 Group have reached a new agreement

The Swedish Playwright’s Union has reached a new contractual agreement with TV4 Group. This will regulate the use of television program and motion picture clips whose copyrights Swedish Playwrights’ Union members own.

Contrary to previous agreements, this new agreement is not limited to traditional screenings on TV 4’s main channel, but also relates to screenings on the group’s niche channels as well as screenings on Internet, Video on Demand and on mobile telephones.

“Swedish drama is already an important element in TV4’s program tableau and with this agreement we are laying a foundation for making Swedish produced drama just as important in our whole range of channels and viewing medias”, says Åsa Sjöberg, program director for television, TV4 Group.

An immediate effect of the agreement will be the increase in the percentage of Swedish programs in the TV4 line up.  First up on TV4 ‘s Comedy Channel is the classic sitcom c/o Segemyhr starring Johan Ulveson.  It will begin showing in January, 2009.

“A well functioning and modern agreement covering the whole gamut of media outlets is an important goal for our organization”, comments The Swedish Playwrights’ Union’s Chairman of the Board, Rolf Börjlind. This agreement with TV4 will offer increased opportunities to Swedish dramatic writing and good remunerations to our members.
The agreement goes into immediate effect.
